Whats the difference between microblading and nano hairstrokes done by a digital device?
Microblading and nano hairstroke technique both create fine hair strokes on your brows to make them look fuller and more defined. They are both tattoos, just using different tools. Nano hairstroke technique delivers much less skin trauma and more natural results.
Microblading is a process during which technicians use a collection of 10 to 18 fine needles configured into a blade shape to cut open the skin and insert pigment to the upper layer of epidermis. A digital permanent makeup device, although also inserting pigment to the upper layer of dermis, do so while only using one single needle with a diameter of 0.18mm. The mechanism behind nano hairstroke technique is similar to a tattoo machine, but the devices are designed specially for permanent makeup procedures with much lower speed and much finer needle configuration suitable for thin skin on faces.
During microblading, technicians are trained to see gaps where skin is cut open. They are also trained to see blood drops on skin openings. When using a digital device to create hairstrokes, skin would not gap open and there would be significantly less blood seen. Clearly, pain level experienced by clients is much lower to none compared to microblading.
How does the entire treatment process look like ?
The entire process will take about 3 hours.
Step 1. When you come in for a consultation, I will answer any question you have regarding the procedure, then I will draw eyebrow shapes and hair strokes on you using pencils to give you a general idea of how your eyebrows would look when they are fuller. Before agreeing to proceed, you will sign a consent form and given aftercare instructions.
Step 2. If you opt for a patch test to see if you are allergic to products we use, the actual procedure will have to happen in another appointment if no allergen found. A patch test will be performed in an inconspicuous area on your skin, such scalp or behind the ear area. A tiny stroke will be made to see if you are allergic to the pigment we use. We will also test the numbing cream (5% lidocaine) on a different part of your skin.
Step 3. With eyebrow shapes drawn, we will now apply a numbing cream (5% lidocaine, OTC) to your skin to alleviate any discomfort that might occur during the procedure. The cream will stay on for 20 minutes, during which time I will work with you to pick out color or colors that best match your skin tone and natural hair color.
Step 4. This is where the fun begins! I will now tattoo your eyebrows with fine hair strokes to blend in with your natural hair, making them fuller and more dynamic.
Step 5. Before you head home, you will be given aftercare instructions to follow as well as a aftercare kit. Healing is 60% of the process. If you do not follow aftercare instructions properly, your eyebrows will be patchy or scars will occur.
Step 6. In 6-8 weeks, you are ready for your touch-up session if you need one. One touch up session is included in the price.
How long does it last ?
It depends. Permanent makeup lasts anywhere between 1-5 years without color boosts. The longevity of your permanent makeup depends highly on your skin type, metabolism, lifestyle and skincare routine.
If you have oily skin around treatment area, the pigment will tend to blur and fade faster compared to someone with dry skin.
If you exercise or sweat a lot, your permanent makeup will tend to fade faster.
If you routinely use retinol, retin-A or any product that exfoliates skin, your permanent makeup will tend to fade faster.
But some people say microblading only lasts 6-12 months? Do microblading last shorter than nano hairstroke brows?
There is no data or evidence to support the claim that microblading only lasts 6-12 months. Both microblading and nano hairstroke technique insert pigment onto the upper layer of epidermis. Nano Hairstrokes only creating smaller skin openings. There is no logical explanation to support the notion that microblading is “semi-permanent”. In fact, too many women are stuck with subpar microblading jobs that were claimed to them to be “semi-permanent”. Like mentioned before, the longevity of your permanent makeup depends highly on your skin type, metabolism, lifestyle and skincare routine.
Does it hurt?
After topical anesthetics (5% lidocaine), discomfort level for most clients should be very little to none. However, anesthetics work better for some people than others. There could be some discomfort involved. People who have very fair skin tone or on menstrual cycle will experience more discomfort.
Who are good candidates for this treatment?
Anyone who seek fuller eyebrows, no matter how much natural hair there is, are potential candidates for this treatment except:
People with oily skin might not be best candidates for hairstroke brows as healed results are often blurred. A better option would be ombre shading for those with oily skin.
People with darker skin complexion often have oily skin, therefore as stated above, a better option would be ombre shading.
People with alopecia are those who would usually seek permanent makeup treatments. However, due to the texture of skin with alopecia, strokes will heal more powdered/solid/blurred.
People with very fair skin tones (blonde, red head) tend to have more sensitive skin therefore treatment could be more painful, or treatment could be stopped due to bleeding. Pigment retention after healing also tend to be less optimal.
You cannot get permanent makeup while pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you have been diagnosed with cancer or any extreme illnesses in the past, we require for you to have been in remission for a minimum of 1 year and have a signed note by a licensed physician in order to receive permanent makeup.
Is this a tattoo ?
By definition, yes it is. So is microblading.
However, permanent makeup devices are designed for such procedures and have lower speed and vibration compared to tattoo machines. Needles used for such devices are much finer compared to tattoo needles to imitate fine hair strokes. Pigments used for permanent makeup are also specially designed to best match hair colors, skin tones and to make sure the color does not fade to blue or red like some tattoos do.

Can I get treatment done with you if I have previous permanent makeup done somewhere else
?
It depends. If you have previous permanent makeup done, please send me pictures of your treated area before booking an appointment. If there is no room for further pigmentation, tattoo removal will be needed before I can work on your skin. I do not “touch-up” other technician’s work. Any new client will be charged full price for her first treatment with me.
